EXPERT IDENTIFIES THE BEST WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM

Posted by stressjudo on April 8, 2010

A presentation by Lauve Metcalfe, M.S., CWC at the American College of Sports Medicine 14th Annual Health & Fitness Summit identified 3 keys to the best weight loss program:
1. Appetite: How you handle food
2. Activity: The activity you choose to do
3. Attitude: How you deal with self-esteem and barriers
The article then identifies 11 keys to developing self-esteem and healthy body image.
This is DIFFERENT from the “mind-body-spirit” concept that marketing and advertising have twisted.  The idea here is straightforward and logical, and – most importantlhy – can b e actively used by you to create your own success in your weight loss program.
What excites us about this article and this presentation is that we identify Success Mindset as the FIRST step in successful weight loss.   For this article, please click the link below:

Weight Loss: Fitness Solutions Or Diet Choices?

Posted by stressjudo on April 5, 2010

Many people starting a weight loss program think they have to choose one of two paths.  They think they have to focus on either fitness solutions – like exercise, stretching, or increased activity – or diet choices.   The diet choices are things like fad diets, celebrity diets, portion control, and other such selections.

The reality is that weight loss is both fitness solutions and diet choices.   The simplistic formula for losing weight is to spend more calories than you take in.  You can do this by increasing your physical activity so you are burning more energy than you take in.  You can also do this by reducing your calories to less than you spend in a day.

The problem with simply increasing activity is that your body will demand that the caloric shortfall be made up.  So you eat more.   But increasing your exercise is a very fast and efficient path to losing weight.

The problem with simply reducing calories is that this leads to starvation.  Also, your body will adjust to the reduced calories.  Adjusting your diet to use foods most efficiently, and to remove fats and sugars, will pay you great dividends, as there is no excess for the bodyt to store as fat.

So the key to fast and permanent weight loss is to combine a diet you can live with, with an exercise program you can do every day.  Also, track how each thing you do actually works.  Track not only your weight, but your mood, your energy, whether you get fatigued easily or not, and your stress management.
