Time Management Is Stress Management: 5 Surefire Tips

Posted by stressjudo on October 20, 2012

The worst kind of stress is time stress.   Having too much to do and too little time to do it.   It can easily feel overwhelming and crushing.  Using time management is one way to fight this stress.  So which time management system do you use to enhance your personal effectiveness?

The answer may sound trite, but it is “the system that works for you.”  This article looks at how you can know a time management system is working for you.

Here are 5 surefire tips to have a wining time management system:

  1. Recognize that time management is really self discipline.  The best time management system is worthless if you don’t follow it.  And the most disciplined person can’t get anything done if they are floundering aimlessly.  Make a commitment to follow the system you choose.
  2. Follow the Pareto Principle.  This principle says that 80% of your benefits come from 20% of your work.  So take time to identify the parts of your day that are the most productive, and focus on getting the maximum from that time.
  3. Set goals by the SMART method.  This means that your goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Tangible.  B y doing this, your efforts stay focused.
  4. Stress Judo Coaching teaches the exclusive TF30 system, to prioritize goals and to allocate time and resources.   Basically, this system divides task into 3 categories: those that absolutely must be done Today; those that must be done by Friday (i.e., this week, but not necessarily today); and those that must be done in the next 30 days.
  5. Use delegation to prioritize.  If you cannot immediately do a task, delegate it.  This may mean delegating it to someone else, with a deadline to have it completed.  It may mean delegating it to yourself, at a future time.

If the time management system you are using does not incorporate all 5 of these points, then your system may actually be adding to your stress.  There are a multitude of fine time management systems.  Surprisingly, not many of them seem to have stress management as their goal.  It may be a side effect, but it is not the focus of the system.

5 Tips To Ease The Stress Of Holiday Party Planning

Posted by stressjudo on November 25, 2009

Who doesn’t love a holiday party?  The food.  The happy people.  The celebration.   The stress.   Holiday party planning is one of the most stressful activities you can engage in.   This article will give you 5 tips to ease the stress of holiday party planning.

This time of year has some of the most intense and wide-ranging party planning.   From the simple church get-together through the intensive christmas planning for the company party, the sheer diversity of the parties can be overwhelming.  But you can actually take control of the stress, and turn this situation into a personal and professional triumph!

Here are some tips to ease the stress of holiday party planning:

  1. Make sure you have a good time management system.  There isn’t much time left, so you have to a lot in a little time.  Time management not only sets aside blocks of time for tasks, but also helps you to prioritize what tasks to do and what tasks to ignore.
  2. Use your creative thinking.  Part of the stress is whether you will do the same party as in the past, or something brand new.    But know your audience.   What might be new and creative to one group of party-goers might be shocking and disgusting to another audience.
  3. Focus on health and nutrition.  Planning a holiday menu that has a good mix of healthy alternatives will leave the majority of your guests happy.  Also, monitor the alcohol use.  Too much will ruin a good thing.
  4. Take time for yourself to regroup.  If you are hosting the holiday party, or involved in managing it, make sure you take some time to take a deep breath – clear your head – and refocus on the priorities.  It is very easay to have a party ruined because the host got stuck on minutia and let the party slip off track.
  5. Stay in good shape leading up to the party.  Planning and hosting a holiday party can be physically exhausting.  If you don’t work on staying in shape, including tapping into your internal energy, you could burn out halfway through the party.   Not only do you miss the fun, you aren’t available for the other party-goers.

There are plenty of articles and books on party themes, party planning, etc.   But not a whole is written on focusing on you and your needs in relation to the holiday party.  Keeping your stress reaction under control while planning a holiday party is a major factor in your enjoyment of the holidays.

Anxiety Help Is More Than Silly Sayings

Posted by stressjudo on September 29, 2009

My name is Rick Carter and I created the STRESS JUDO Stress Management system to give you control and power over stress and anxiety.  Basaed on 15 years in the courtroom and 25 years in the karate studio, STRESS JUDO trains you to attack and destroy the stress and anxiety in your life.  It’s not just anxiety help.  It’s anxiety conversion into opportunities.

I just read an article that was supposed to be tips to help you handle stress and anxiety.  Instead, it was just a list of silly sayings instead of real anxiety help:

  1. “Take a deep breath.”
  2. “Step back from the problem and come back later.”
  3. “Visualize success.”
  4. “Get lots of sleep.  Tell yourself you can do it.”

And you know what?  The thing that is causing the stress and anxiety in your life – IS STILL THERE!  This list is the equivalent of telling you to have positive thoughts about your flat tire.  It’s FLAT until you CHANGE it!   Your stress management system needs to give you the ability to convert your stress, not just handle it.

STRESS JUDO gives you the tools – creative problem solving, time management, meditation, energy creation, and 8 other areas – to control your internal reaction to stress as well as to attack and destroy the stressor.  This is because your internal stress reaction is telling you that a growth opportunity is stretching your boundaries.

Of course, some anxiety and stress requires professional help.  See your health care professional to make sure you are handling your anxiety properly.
