Multi tasking the right way: How to Delegate

As we have seen, true multi tasking is working on one task while another task is completing.  Essentially, the computer delegates a task to another device or another section of the computer and works on something else until that first task signals that it is done.  So, for you to multi-task (instead of just juggling tasks badly), you need to learn to delegate.

The most well-known type of delegating a task is to delegate it to someone else.  You can also delegate it to yourself.

Do You Want Free STRESS JUDO COACHING?

One day, I was throwing kicks at the karate dojo (school). I was trying to kick very high, which made lose my balance. A lot!  So my sensei (teacher) watched me for a few kicks – and falls – and then said, very casually, “Turn your left out this way before you kick.”  I did it, and suddenly I wasn’t falling!  So I said “That’s it??!!”  And he said “That’s what you pay me for.” 
 
That sums up coaching.  Not cheerleading, although motivation is a component.  Not training, although teaching is a big part.  Not game-planning, although helping you see the “big picture” comes with the territory.  Coaching is all of these, with the added element of training you to master the insight to do all of this for yourself.

 

Personal coaching, which is what STRESS JUDO COACHING offers, means you and your coach (in this case – me!) take a journey, where the path leads to personal transformation.  It doesn’t have to be some peer-into-the-soul-of-the-Universe revelation (although, as revelations go, those are pretty cool).  For some people, it means that you are a different person from when you started.  For others, it means you are a completely different person from when you started.  For me, it meant a person who took the combative excellence needed in the courtroom and fighting ring and fashioned into a training program to help people fight the daily stresses and anxieties that keep them from seeing the joy in their lives.

This page explains that the coaching is personal – meaning one-on-one with the coach and focused on you personally – built within the framework of the progressive training of the belt system.  It explains the resources, the belts, the tools you receive at each level.  It explains the price.  It explains all the free stuff you can ask for.
 
But it cannot give you the experience and feel of coaching.  It’s like boxing or dancing (I have done both).  No matter how many rounds or recitals you observe.  No matter how many “behind the scenes” documentaries you watch. No matter how many boxers or dancers you talk with.   None of these can give you the experience of seeing a punch coming at your head and ducking under it, or of boxing (yeah, you’ve never seen me dance, have you?).

How To Gain Respect At Work

Respect is defined as “a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability” (“respect.” Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc. 05 Sep. 2010).  Most people talk of respect in a generalized sense (“I respect my boss.”).  But in the workplace, a generalized respect won’t really cut it when things like promotions or raises are on the line.  Use the second part of the definition and strive to gain respect at work for a quality or ability.

You can focus on your own strengths or weaknesses and improving one or more.  For example, if you are particularly strong in time management, then you can continue to develop this area.  The positive is that it will be easier to stand out and gain respect if you are already string in that area.  The downside is that you may become pigeon-holed into that area, and not recognized for other strengths you may have.

You can also strengthen a trait that upper management considers valuable.  Here are 5 traits that generally make you more promotable:

  1. Leadership.  Study this area and decide how you personally want to develop your leadership traits.  Some people define this as charisma, some define it as the ability to get people to follow your direction.  There are many examples of leaders.  Pick one that fits your personality and focus on making it stringer.
  2. Stress management.  Management wants to promote people who can be relied on.  If you crumble under stress or pressure, you are not reliable.  Select a stress management system that works in all situations.
  3. Time management.  “Under budget and on time” are the happiest words to your bosses.  Manage your time well, and the people above you and on your team will respect you.
  4. Constant education.  Demonstrate that you are always educating yourself about all aspects of your job and your career.  This means the technical aspects of your position right now, and about the position you wish to hold in several years.
  5. Team building.  Companies like to hold on to talent and develop new talent. Demonstrating that you can do both these tasks increases your value to the company by leveraging your worth.

 

Respect is too often interpreted as “being afraid of” or “being intimidated by.”  True respect is having co-workers and upper management see and value the unique qualities you bring to the workplace.  The key to how to gain respect at work is to develop and show off your value.

Executive Leadership Coaching – Making The Most Of It

If you are going to go for executive leadership coaching, you need to make sure it sticks.  See, many companies that say they offer “coaching” offer only a 1 day or 2 day seminar 0n goal setting and teamwork.  Or they come in and kibbitz your project and then give you crappy little saying about leadership.

What you want is coaching that will develop your leadership.   Or coaching that you can pass on to your team, to develop leaders.   But without having to pay a consultant hundreds of dollars an hour to do it.

Corporate Charity Rip-offs

I just saw a commercial for a fast-food chain (I won’t mention the name so I don’t get sued) that was pitching some kind of charitable donation if you buy their crappy food.  The charity was actually pretty cool and sounded worthy.  But, at the bottom of the screen – in teeny-tiny print – was the MASSIVE RIPOFF.

At the bottom of the screen, it said that each restaraunt would donate “up to $250.”  WTF??!! So that means that if YOU go there and buy their crap – with the intention of having a portion of your purchase be donated to this charity – and you are purchaser $251 – YOIU LOSE!

Check out the next time you see a carton in the grocery store that says a donation will go to a charity, usually a cancer charity.   The fine print will say “GIANT RIPOFF CORP. will donate up to $100,000 to xyz charity.”  That means that they PROFIT off everyone who purchases OVER the $100,000 limit.  Man, this burns me up!

So here’s the solution: the next time you see this – and you are motivated to make a purchase because of the charity – just give STRAIGHT to the charity!  Bypass the giant scamming corporation that is whoring out the victims for corporate greed and playing off YOUR charitable feelings.  The charity will benefit better.

Oh, and while you at it: send a letter to giant ripoff corporation that says “make your donation AT LEAST $100,000, instead of UP TO, you greedy scum-sucking whores.”

You’ll feel really good.
